Unlocking the potential of Market Affiliation to reach new customers (part 2!)

Choosing brands and affiliate programs to improve affiliation sales

There are many children’s brands proposing affiliation programs in a number of countries. The focus for this article is advertisers in France and the United Kingdom to link in with two of the regions integrated in Winamaz. Some key brands/advertisers in France with affiliate programs include*:
  • ADBB Autour de Bébé
  • Orchestra
  • Univers Poussette
  • Bleu ou Rose
  • IdKids
  • Oxybul IdKids
  • “C” comme cadeau
  • Berceau magique
  • Peluche.fr
  • Vertbaudet
*All of the above and more are available within the Winamaz plugin as well as Amazon and the major superstores as shown in the examples below!
Although it is often recommended to limit each website or blog to 5-10 affiliate programs it really depends on how you are presenting the products. Promoting too many different products can make it difficult for visitors to find the relevant information if your website appears to be cluttered. It is important to research the programs you want to promote to ensure they are reputable and relevant to your audience.  However, too few products may leave your visitors wanting more and going elsewhere to find the products they need. So, balance is key – promoting a select number of products from several top brands is a good place to start – but not only should you present choice in the products themselves but it is becoming more and more necessary to provide product price comparison, so that visitors can find the best deals for the product they want available with several advertisers without ever leaving your page*. Additionally, providing price comparison can help build trust with readers, as it shows that information is providing unbiased information and helping them make an informed decision, whether that is based solely on price, advertiser preference, service, etc.
*Of course, some brands sell exclusively via their own website, in which case you cannot compare then across other advertisers

Winamaz in action

The positive impact Winamaz can have on your pages is better explained through examples.

Shortcode Bestprice

The Bestprice shortcode is used to display the best price available of a given product, with a comparison option should it exist across several advertisers you are affiliated with.  In the example, the shortcode includes the EAN of the specific product – you can also use the ASIN code or even a keyword: The result as shown in step 5 above is a discrete logo and price that    a trackable affiliate link.  Clicking on “compare prices” displays a pop-up box of all options for the product (step 6). This type of shortcode can be used to complement a product review or tutorial page for example that already includes images, text and descriptions.  It takes little space and presents all advertisers selling the product.

Shortcode EAN using horizontal template

The EAN shortcode is used to display a single product and proposes several formats to choose from – here “horizontal’ is chosen.  Again, it provides the comparison option should the product exist across several advertisers you are affiliated with*. In the example, the shortcode includes the EAN of the specific product – you can also use the ASIN code or even a keyword. Steps 1 and 2 as above: The result as shown in step 5 above is a horizontal product box with the lowest cost option displayed.  Clicking on “compare” extends the list to include additional advertisers selling the product. This type of shortcode can be used to on a page with one or more products displayed.  By default, it includes a title, description, image and pricing information with links and is therefore standalone, without the need to add additional information unless so required.   Due to its nature, it takes up a moderate amount of space on a page or blog and again presents all advertisers selling the product.
* Note that the EAN shortcode does not use the Amazon API and as such can exclude Amazon from its results by adding except= “Amazon” to the shortcode

Shortcode EAN using simplelist template

An additional example of the EAN shortcode is provided using the “listsimple” template: The result as shown in step 5 above is a full list of all advertisers proposing the product by price. This type of shortcode can be used to on a page with one or more products displayed and on which already includes a product title, description and image.  There is no compare button in this template.   It is a popular selection for purchasing guides, reviews and product pages where the content manager has a moderate number of affiliation programs activated in the same space.

Shortcodes Newest and Bestsellers – multiple products

The Newest shortcode is based on Amazon and is used to display up to 5 of the latest models of your product choice, with a comparison option should one or more of the products exist across several advertisers you are affiliated with.  The shortcode should be based one or more keywords (with additional parameters such as brand as required) of the type of product you are searching for: The result as shown in step 3 above is a series of horizontal product boxes each displaying a different product available at Amazon and resulting from your search criteria.  Clicking on “compare” as shown in the third item above extends the product box to include additional advertisers selling the product. The bestsellers shortcode works in the same way as newest but displays the best-selling products at Amazon rather than the latest releases: The result as shown in step 3 above is a series of vertical product boxes each displaying a different product available at Amazon and resulting from your search criteria.  Clicking on “compare” as shown in the second item above extends the product box to include additional advertisers selling the product. Depending on the number of products requested, the multiple shortcodes can take up quite a lot of space on your pages BUT they provide product and pricing options in one fell swoop.  They can be complemented by an article or page on the brand chosen or other parameters linked to your search.  It is a quick and easy way to display new or best-selling products to your customers.
